Hello & Welcome

This will be the detailed reflections of four girls and their lives wearing a $12 unisex crew neck from Walmart. Are we inspired by the cult classic The sisterhood of the Travelling Pants? Yes and no. Of course the idea behind it we can't claim, but the sense of connection, community and excitement brought on by sharing in something special during unprecedented times (COVID-19) is not uniquely a Hollywood experience.

I am the first of the four to complete the "cycle", and will focus on my reflective experiences and how collaborating on this little project with my best friends adds to my ever evolving narrative of a 26 year old teacher stuck in quarantine in 2020. We ( Julia, Jaclyn, Amanda and I ) had this idea months ago, but this sudden emergence of extra time and an eagerness to connect with one another skyrocketed our efforts.

3 weeks per girl. In 12 weeks this sweater will be worn by 4 very different girls not categorised by labels, categories or expectations. She (our sweater) will travel to Oakville and Binbrook, Ontario and then off to Victoria, B.C. She may have some new embellishments throughout her journey, but will always stand for the same: commitment, youth and love.

I look forward to sharing my experiences wearing her- including my favourites songs, food and conversations I have while feeling protected, warm and shielded.

First time out

One of the perks of COVID-19 has been my frequent walks in nature. This is one of the only socially acceptable activities I can do to keep physical while blowing off some steam. A whole new appreciation for the outside world has emerged since my everyday routine has been limited to the walls of my home, waiting for this virus to run its course. In my early teen years I was introduced to this trail near my Mom's old dental office she worked at. Back then, walking in nature felt forced. When my mom would say " Let's go for a walk" nothing but resent, frustration and teenage angst would mumble through my less than enthusiastic "sure" response. Like every old person ever, I now have an evolved appreciation for walking and being outside. Final days with the sweater ♥️✨

Hello sweater sisters! My time is now up with our beloved sweater, as I reflect on my time with it I have come to one realization.  For me it wasn’t even the things I did in the sweater (Eat, run, nap, walk, sit outside, self reflect)  that made my time special. It was the moments of  reflection, thinking about you ladies.  I can’t wait to see what the sweaters next adventures in the coming months. Gone Fishin' 🎣

Something about these times during social distancing and a global pandemic has me thinking a lot about the future, questioning more than I should. Where am I going? What is happening? What is normal? Often times I am not eager to look forward to the future. Of course as a teacher naturally I plan like hell. In life, come what may.... When Amanda dropped her off to me I felt a sense of relief to have her with me. I knew the future was going to be bright because I saw myself wearing her for years and years to come. We must have done something right ladies.  ❤️ IN OUR FIRST WEEK WE spent time teaching from home to my grade 3s, cuddling on cool nights in May, ROAD TRIP with David to his family cottage!
